Programs

Arts Created Together (A.C.T)

The Arts Created Together (A.C.T.) program brings hands-on enrichment programs to our students. Our PTA leads closely collaborate with teachers and staff to find and schedule the best programs for each grade. The team then delivers two school-wide programs and two additional presentations per grade. Recent programs include origami making, readings with local authors, and Chinese ribbon dancing.

Big Backyard (BBY)

The Big Backyard (BBY) program boosts our science curriculum and teaches students about observation, problem solving, and questioning while exploring the natural environment. Teachers partner with parent volunteers to extend classroom curriculum into Harrington’s outdoors. Every season, volunteers take small groups of students exploring. Discover more about BBY here:

Green Team

The Green Team oversees the composting and recycling of eligible food and compostable items during school lunches and school events. Green Team volunteers assist during school lunches to show students how we all play a role in safeguarding our environment. PTA leads work with LPS Green Teams from across Lexington to increase environmental education, and they coordinate closely with Harrington’s staff and administration to decrease our school's carbon footprint. Find out more about Green Team here!

Library Support

The PTA helps support the library curriculum at Harrington and matches parent volunteers to assist in the library during their student’s specialist class time. This year, library will look different, but we will be supporting reading selections and opportunities to read together throughout the year.

Map Night

The PTA works with our curriculum leads and teachers who help bring a National Geographic Society giant map to our school every year. Last year, students and families took the opportunity to walk over a giant map of Asia while answering fun questions with their friends. Tables of different countries’ art, games, familiar products, and more add to the fun of the evening.

Math Mornings

The PTA provides math enrichment programming through Math Mornings. This is a parent-led program to build problem-solving skills for our 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders. This year, all mornings are virtual for students once a week before school at 8 am. Mondays are for 4th Graders, Wednesdays are 5th Graders, and Fridays are 3rd Graders. The PTA runs Math Nights to gather families and their students for some fun-filled challenges and math games. Typically, there is one Math Night per grade each year.

METCO Family Friends

METCO Family Friends helps us to strengthen relationships among our students and their families by matching Lexington host families with our Boston families who attend Harrington. Once a month, Lexington Hawk families will host their METCO friend for some playtime or adventures. METCO is coming up with ways to stay connected during COVID-19, so please do help support this wonderful community building program and become a host family for one of our new students. Science Enrichment

This PTA funded program brings grade-level, curriculum-based, science programming to all Harrington students throughout the year. Hands-on experiences are the highlights of visits from the Museum of Science, Discovery Museum, New England Aquarium, local zoos, and more.

Understanding Our Differences (UOD)
